Summer Programs

This summer we will have Mateo Maldonado in Seattle coaching both ILCA and Optimist High-Performance Clinics. We will also be making trips to Squamish, BC for high-wind training and ILCA Worlds in LA.

Optimist High-Perf Clinics with Mateo & Seb

Sebastian, PSST Sailor, at IODA North American Championship

Dates (all sessions at CYC):

Session #1: JUNE, Mon 16th - Fri 20th Waves Regatta @RVYC next weekend
Session #2: AUGUST, Mon 4th -8th

Cost:

$650 a session ($130 a day, 28% disc.)
$185 a day (10% discount on 2-3 days)

Registration

Sponsored by CYC-CSC and PSST, this program is designed for our most competitive PNW Optimist sailors who want to improve their skills. The program will be coached by Mateo Maldonado and Sebastian Samano. Mateo is an accomplished Optimist and ILCA sailor. As an Opti sailor, he sailed multiple IODA international events at an early age. He is a member of the Argentinian National Team, U21 Argentinian National Champion for the last 3 years, and ILCA World Cup sailor since 2022. Mateo has been coaching for Hot Wind Escuela de Vela in San Juan Argentina since 2018 and he was CYC-CSC Summer Program director the last two years. Sebastian is our own CYC and Pacific Northwest sailor where he started sailing age 9. Now 14, Seb is an accomplished Optimist sailor and will be representing Mexico at the 2025 IODA European and North American Championships. Seb helps coach our PSST sailors on the most technical aspects of the Opti.

We will maintain a 9:1 max sailor to coach ratio
Exceptions may be made based on learning objectives (e.g. starts)
Priority will be given to sailors registering for both weeks
Full-week registrations get a 10% discount
Individual days will be subject to availability

ILCA High-Perf Weekends Program with Mateo

Sponsored by CYC-CSC and PSST, this program is designed for our most dedicated ILCA racing sailors in the PNW who want to be more competitive and continue to improve their skills. The program will be taught by Mateo Maldonado, Argentinian National Team sailor, U21 Argentinian National Champion for the last 3 years, ILCA World Cup sailor since 2022, and currently on a bid for the 2028 Olympics. Mateo has been coaching for Hot Wind Escuela de Vela in San Juan Argentina since 2018 and he was CYC-CSC Summer Program director the last two years.

Classes meet Sat/Sun for 5 weekends, for a total of 10 sessions
We have a target ratio of 8:1 sailor to coach ratio - Mateo may make adjustments based on training objectives (e.g. starts)
Full-program sailors will get a 28% discount and will have a guaranteed spot
Any remaining spots will be made available on an individual basis
Sailors signing up for 2+ individual weekends will get a 10% discount
Our ILCA 7 sailors will choose one or two weekends where we can have 2+ sailors to work on speed drills
Sessions will be ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 mixed

Week #2: Sat Jun 21st - Sun 22nd
Week #3: Sat Jul 5th - Sun 6th 1/2 Day (4th of July is Fri, WIND starts Mon)
Week #4: Sat Aug 9th - Sun Aug 10th
Week #5: Sat Aug 16th - Sun 17th

Cost:

$1,400 for the 5 Session program ($140 a day, 28% disc.) - $750 on registration and $650 invoiced May 22nd
$400 for 1 Session ($200 a day, 10% disc. on 2+ sessions)
All proceeds go to support Mateo's 2028 Olympic bid 🙂
